Gold Falls Toward $4,000 on Stronger Dollar, Rate-Hike Expectations

Gold prices tumbled, extending the previous session's losses as a stronger U.S. dollar and growing expectations that the Fed could raise interest rates later this year weighed on investor sentiment.

In morning trading in New York, gold futures fell 2.5% to $4,045.90 a troy ounce. The greenback advanced against a basket of currencies today, which has the effect of making dollar-denominated commodities more expensive for overseas buyers.

Other precious metals also declined.

Iran: US attacks violate UN charter, ceasefire

Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned on Sunday the latest strikes carried out by the United States in southern Iran, slamming them as a violation of the United Nations Charter and the memorandum signed between the two countries in Switzerland earlier this month.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran, while reminding the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General of their responsibilities, reaffirms its determination to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity against American military aggression, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter," the ministry noted in a statement.
Tensions were on the rise again between the two countries following the US strikes and Iran's retaliation in Kuwait and Bahrain. Moreover, US President Donald Trump again threatened that Iran would cease to exist if its attacks continued.
