Brothers,

Do you remember 15 years ago, when we had no place of our own? We used to gather quietly behind the wall in the corner of Shepherds Bush Masjid - just a small group of us, holding on to our deen and to each other.

Then Allah blessed us with a masjid of our own. It grew into something far greater than we ever imagined a place of prayer, brotherhood, guidance, and support for so many.

Now, 15 years later, we are facing eviction.

If we lose the masjid, we risk losing more than a building we risk losing the community. The regular faces we see every week may slowly disappear. The bonds we built may weaken. It could become as though we were never even here in Shepherds Bush. Allah knows best.

So let’s come together once again. Let’s strive, give, and push to raise what is needed to protect this community that has benefited so many over the years.

If we are sincere, and we worship Allah correctly and wholeheartedly, then Allah’s help will come.

May Allah put barakah in our efforts and unite our hearts.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

وَأَنفِقُوا۟ مِن مَّا رَزَقْنَـٰكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِىَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوْلَآ أَخَّرْتَنِىٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍۢ قَرِيبٍۢ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ١٠

“And spend from what We have provided for you before death comes to one of you and he says, ‘My Lord, if only You would delay me for a short term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.’ (Surah Al-Munafiqun 63:10)

Ibn Kathir explains that the they specifically mentions charity when wishing to return to the dunya because charity is among the greatest deeds that benefits a person in the Hereafter. Its reward is immense, and its impact continues especially when it is ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah).

Unlike many other good deeds that end with a person’s life, charity can continue to earn reward even after death - whether through building a masjid, supporting knowledge, or helping people in lasting ways. So they will say, *“So that I may give charity and be among the righteous.”*

This is a powerful reminder, that while we still have time, health, and wealth, we should give from what Allah has provided - before a day comes when we wish for just one more chance to give!

My dear brothers,

duʿāʾ in hour before Maghrib
duʿāʾ when breaking fast
duʿāʾ after giving charity

Friday holds a special hour before Maghrib when duʿāʾ is accepted. And as we fast, the supplication of the fasting person is not turned away.

One of the beautiful means of having our duʿāʾ answered is to give charity beforehand.

Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned that Ibn Taymiyyah would give charity on his way to Jumuʿah, saying that if charity was commanded before speaking privately with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then giving charity before privately calling upon Allah is even more virtuous.

So take a moment today. Give something for the sake of Allah.

Support Masjid Daar us Sunnah. Then raise your hands and ask perhaps that charity will be the reason your duʿāʾ is accepted.

An auntie who loves DaarusSunnah gave me £1000 towards the establishment of the new masjid in sha Allah. It’s a donation from her and her family on behalf of her eldest daughter, Zahra (رحمه الله), who passed away last Ramadan.

May Allah have mercy on our sister and grant her Jannah.
May Allah accept this donation from her family and make it heavy on her scale of good deeds on the Day of Judgement.
Whoever fails to thank people has not truly thanked Allah. The overwhelming support we have received from the community has far exceeded our expectations. We are sincerely humbled and grateful to Allah for blessing us with such a caring and generous community.

"Those who spend their wealth in charity day and night, secretly and openly - their reward is with their Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve." - Q: 2:274
