What to know about the planes flying over the National Mall this weekend

About 60 planes will fly over the National Mall (a no fly zone) in Washington, D.C., on Saturday to celebrate aviation history in the United States. 

The National Celebration of General Aviation D.C. Flyover will occur around 12 p.m. ET on Saturday. Some planes that will fly over the Mall date back to 1939. 

“We will tell the story of what general aviation does for this great country,” Mike Ginter of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association said.

According to the press release, AOPA has the permission for the event from 10 government agencies and Congress. An event like this over the Mall has never been done before with general aviation aircrafts.
