The U.S. and the Holocaust - Part 1 of 3
This is a new documentary by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein.
It is a three-part, six hour series that examines Americaโs response to one of the greatest humanitarian crises of the twentieth century. Americans consider themselves a โnation of immigrants,โ but as the catastrophe of the Holocaust unfolded in Europe, the United States proved unwilling to open its doors to more than a fraction of the hundreds of thousands of desperate people seeking refuge. Through riveting firsthand testimony of witnesses and survivors who as children endured persecution, violence and flight as their families tried to escape Hitler, this series delves deeply into the tragic human consequences of public indifference, bureaucratic red tape and restrictive quota laws in America. Did the nation fail to live up to its ideals? This is a history to be reckoned with.

Great version of "Yoducha Raayonai" which is a song us Mizrachi Jews sing exactly like this on Shabbat.
It was written by Rabbi Israel ben Moses Najara who was born in the Ottoman Empire in 1555 in Tsfat (Palestine). Fun fact: There was also no such thing as Palestinians back then ๐
He was also the Rabbi of Gaza at the time and even lived in Damascus.
The guys singing this version are Yemenites.

These 2 songs we Mizrachi Jews sing on Shabbat. The songs are Agadelcha and Yoducha Rayonai.
The singer in these videos is David D'Or who is a classically trained opera style singer who has Libyan ancestry. So he mixes classical type vocals with Mizrachi style. He once sang live with the famous Haredi singer Avraham Fried.

Amazing!!
This is Meir Chajbi, an Israeli Jew of Yemenite descent and he is singing one of the Slichot songs in the Great Synagogue in Florence Italy.
Last year I made a post about this exact synagogue after an Israeli Mizrachi Jew was filmed singing another amazing song in there. The post hit over 10 thousand shares on Facebook. Here is the post and here on Facebook.
When the Nazis occupied Florence, this very synagogue was the headquarters for Nazi artillery storage. When the Nazis were retreating, the entire building was wired to be blown up. The Nazis dragged their wires several blocks away. As they were doing this, the non-Jewish caretaker was able to dismantle all of the bombs, leaving only one in an area of the building where, if blown up, would not threaten the structure. He did this, so that when the Nazis detonated, they would hear an explosion and leave. Because of that Righteous Gentile, the magnificent Synagogue of Florence was saved.
