That Rutte lost his communication with De Jonge during the corona crisis is evident from an inventory list that the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) has drawn up in connection with a request for information from de Volkskrant on the basis of the Freedom of Information Act (Wob). It mentions iMessage traffic between Rutte and De Jonge between March 2020 and June 2020. A spokesman acknowledges that this is previously undisclosed material.

That Rutte erased all his text messages on a daily basis for years came to light in May this year after de Volkskrant had requested his text message traffic from the prime minister during the corona crisis. The communication that the Ministry of General Affairs made public in June 2021 was very limited. Although Rutte was known to 'govern by text message', few text messages appeared to have been archived, and not even a handful of text messages to De Jonge.
