The vision of vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Liz Hysen has anchored the project's sound throughout these three decades, even amidst a diverse cast of collaborators that have come, gone, and sometimes returned. From a sound perspective, Hysen's deployment of mangled samples immediately distinguishes this release from other entries in

From a sound perspective, Hysen's deployment of mangled samples immediately distinguishes this release from other entries in
Picastro's discography. Their inclusion comes as a direct result of her seeking to sharpen her Ableton Live skills under Ben Vida's guidance, another COVID-era pursuit. Completely coincidentally, American composer Charles Ives—known for his pioneering use of musical quotation—was one of the first things she mined for samples. Despite a whirlwind 2025, which included supports with The Sex Pistols, The Undertones, selling out headline shows across the UK and Europe, Glastonbury, 2000trees, and Download Festival, Lily (guitar and vocals) and Lewis (drums) somehow managed to find the time to write and record 11 tracks of their most politically charged, hard-hitting music to date.
With producer Dan Weller at the helm, Business is a modern punk classic. Fan favourites like 'So Modern' (Keep Up)' are captured with all the energy and scuzziness from the band's live show, and title track 'Business' goes hard, taking taking aim at the challenges found within today's music industry.
Since exploding onto the UK scene, The Meffs have built up a reputation as purveyors of frantic punk rock and an absolute must-see live sensation. 'Business' serves the testament of band's growing reputation.

Side A features songs performed and produced by human musicians, rooted in the project’s established language: a balance between rock and electronics, physical energy and melodic focus. Side B uses the same tracks as raw material, reworked through artificial intelligence tools and transformed into experimental electronic remixes — more unstable, nocturnal and club-oriented. Commenting on the concept of the release, the founding member Tommaso Mantelli explains: “Captain Mantell has always gravitated around non-human presences, and right now we feel AI is the most immediate and unresolved version of that idea, a new kind of alien presence, something already embedded in our lives, but still not fully understood. At a certain point we felt that making just another rock record wasn’t enough, and this was the right moment to push things further and reflect what’s actually happening around us right now.”
