#BREAKING: Nizar Amedi, the official nominee of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has been elected as Iraq’s new President after securing a majority of votes in the runoff round.

Amedi served as Iraq’s Minister of Environment in the cabinet of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. He resigned from this post in late 2024 to focus entirely on his political responsibilities within the PUK.
