Indigenous AIP system for Indian Navy’s diesel-electric submarines achieves key milestone with inauguration of Setting to Work Phase-2 Activity

A significant milestone towards enhancing Indian Navy’s underwater capabilities has been achieved with the inauguration of ‘Setting to Work Phase (STW)-2’ activity of the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system Energy Module developed indigenously by Naval Materials Research Laboratory, DRDO.

The AIP system boosts the underwater endurance of the diesel-electric submarines by reducing its dependence on atmospheric oxygen.

🦅 The demonstration at MCTE, Mhow used TeamSDE’s Sagar Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to carry an airborne quantum payload, sharing secure keys with ground stations for real-time encrypted file transfers.

🔒 True DI-QKD eliminates the need to trust source or detector hardware (loophole-free Bell tests)—a capability previously confined strictly to controlled laboratory environments.

🌐 These UAS-deployed quantum nodes can be launched on demand, providing unhackable communications in tactical zones where terrestrial infrastructure is damaged or missing.
