The Union Cabinet approved the strategic restructuring and sale of a 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank to Canada’s Fairfax Financial Holdings.

The deal is valued at ₹52,878.08 crore (~$5.6 billion). It marks the largest-ever Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India's financial sector .

The move takes forward the government's long - pending plan to transfer management control of the lender and will become the country's biggest strategic disinvestment since the sale of Air India once completed.
