The Maldives has reneged on its commitment to jointly develop the Thilafushi Port with India, signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company for development of the first phase of the project. The development has triggered alarm bells in the strategic community as it can boost China's presence in India's southern neighbourhood.

Maldives Ports Limited recently signed an MoU with China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), awarding the port project on a single nomination basis even as CHEC has a patchy track record.CHEC was involved in Ports in Kenya, Hambantota Port of Sri Lanka and ports in South America!!

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has summoned Meta India's managing director and country head to appear before it on 9th September, Wednesday over advertisements allegedly linked to child sexual exploitation and abuse material (CSEAM) on Instagram.

The Commission took suo motu cognisance of a media report published by BBC Eye and issued a notice to Meta Platforms, Inc. on July 3, 2026, asking the company to explain the allegations. Meta submitted its response a week after receiving the notice.After reviewing that response, the NCPCR decided to launch a formal inquiry to establish the facts and circumstances of the matter.
