PhonePe launches UPI service without internet
PhonePe launched UPI 123Pay on 31 August 2026 becoming the first major TPAP to bring internet free UPI payments to Indiaโs 200M+ feature phone users. Powered by SMS technology it supports P2P transfers QR merchant payments balance and transaction checks.
It comes Pre bundled on Nokia, HMD ,Lava and ITEL devices.

PhonePe said the rollout is built on a proprietary technology stack developed specifically for enabling UPI payments on feature phones.
SMS-based architecture for low-connectivity regions PhonePe UPI 123Pay runs on an SMS-based architecture designed to keep transactions functional even in areas with limited 2G network coverage.
