India wasted 300 GWh of clean power in Q1 2026 as coal plants ignored the 40% minimum load mandate, blocking solar from the grid.

Curtailment was due to transmission constraints and thermal plants not reducing output, citing higher costs, reduced plant life, and no clarity on compensation. The deadline is now pushed to 2027.

34 GWh was curtailed on March 30, 2026 alone. 20 GW of renewable capacity faces 5+ month connectivity delays in FY27, and 25% of transmission projects for 2026-27 are delayed over a year.

Coal plant load factors fell to 55% in 2023-24 from 85% in 2009-10, expected to hit 40%. #Power

🎉 Green-era transmission expansion is now mainstream.

Bihar is shifting to TBCB for intra-state transmission. BSPTCL and RECPDCL signed an MoU to develop projects via tariff-based competitive bidding, moving away from monopoly buildouts.

*Goal:* Modernize the grid, cut transmission losses, improve power quality, boost private participation, and support Bihar’s 2025–30 industrial growth.

Since 2013, six major TBCB projects with Bihar footprint have been commissioned, including ERSS-XIX in Dec 2025. No Bihar-specific TBCB projects are under construction as of April 2026, per CEA. #Power
