๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฐ๏ธ๐ Today at 12:29 PM IST, GalaxEye launched the worldโs first satellite that combines Optical + Synthetic Aperture Radar (optoSAR) sensors on a single platform - at a weight of ~190 kg, it is also the largest satellite built by a private company in India. The satellite was launched off SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket.
The engineering significance is colossal. By fusing SAR with multispectral imaging in one pass, the optoSAR payload produces inherently aligned, analysis-ready imagery with roughly 3x the information of single-sensor systems.
For India, this translates into special strategic capability: persistent border and maritime surveillance with no weather or night blind spots; real-time tracking of convoys, camouflage detection, and change detection; and faster military decisioning through onboard AI.
