IMPACTS What does The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill,2026 Amends? 1. Amend Article 81 โ Article 81 limits Lok Sabha Upper limit at 550 seats. If amended Upper limits will be 850 seats. 2. End the Article 82 Delimitation Freezeโฆ
What happes now?
Delimitation will still happen after the first census post-2026(i.e 2027). The 84th Amendment has frozen Delimitation till 2026.
Once the Constitutional mechanism kicks in, Delimitation based purely on population, and the enacting act will require a Simple Majority.
Only a Constitutional Amendment can now freeze the seats of State at the present numbers after next Delimitation. Otherwise Southern States, West Bengal etc will lose seats. #Parliament
