Recently passed Jan Vishwas Bill 2026 decriminalises 1,000+ offences across 784 provisions in 79 laws. 317 provisions shift fines to civil penalties; 158 remove fines; 113 replace jail+fine with penalties. Changes include ₹10,000 penalties (MV Act) and ₹2,000 railway fines, no imprisonment.
