SM is full of thorium dumping stories, No one is dumping thorium, As a sensible citizen, let us stop spreading/falling for rumors based on misleading headlines & instead look at the verified facts.

India is currently in the middle of a multi-decade Chemical Chess Match that the rest of the world has largely given up on. While the US & Europe abandoned thorium in the 1970s in favor of uranium (which was easier to weaponize), India has stayed obsessively committed.

India has < 1% of the world's uranium but ~25% of the world's thorium (mostly in the monazite sands of Kerala & Odisha). Thorium is not fissile. We cannot just put it in a reactor & start a fire. It is fertile. It is like wet wood; we need a starter (Uranium/Plutonium) to turn it into U-233, which then provides the energy.

India's 3 Stage Nuclear Power Programme (designed by Homi J. Bhabha) is a slow-burn strategy. We are currently transitioning from Stage 1 (Uranium) to Stage 2 (Plutonium Breeders). We need Stage 2 to build enough starter fuel to finally unlock the thorium in Stage 3.

As of early 2026, the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam is the most watched nuclear site in the world. This reactor is the bridge to the Thorium Age. It breeds more fuel than it consumes.

Once the PFBR stabilizes, India will begin loading the Advanced Heavy Water Reactor (AHWR), which is specifically designed to use thorium.
