The Supreme Court of India, led by CJI Surya Kant, has agreed to examine if Brahmins can be classified as "politically backward" for panchayat seat reservations under Political Backward Class (PBC). A petition by Youth for Equality Foundation argues political backwardness differs from social/economic, citing a 2010 ruling. The bench prima facie sees PBCs as deriving from socially/educationally backward classes but is open to review.

Since 1991, the Indian state has used two opiates to contain demands for real change:

This keeps rural and lower-income groups divided in zero-sum fights over quotas, blocking unified pressure for universal education, healthcare, and social security.

2. Encouragement of large-scale labour migration abroad — redirecting urban youth frustration into overseas visas and remittances. This reduces domestic demands for better jobs, infrastructure, stable employment, and meaningful political inclusion. This is why every FTA India signs has a mobility contract in it.

The result is intentional: artificial scarcity persists. People battle for basic rights or exit options, while the state sidesteps the cost of a genuine welfare system or inclusive growth.This is sustained social control — divide by caste in villages, export discontent from cities, protect elite interests.
