Yamuna’s Delhi stretch remains far from bathing standards, with October 2025 DPCC data showing a sharp post-monsoon rebound in pollution: BOD spiking up to 37 mg/L near ISBT against the ≤3 mg/L bathing limit, fecal coliform rising to around 21,000 MPN/100 ml versus the ≤2,500 MPN/100 ml standard, and dissolved oxygen dropping to zero at the city’s exit, alongside recurring surface froth near Kalindi Kunj and Okhla despite dilution releases from upstream Haryana before Chhath Puja season. These swings followed a brief September improvement when heavy flows flushed contaminants and fecal coliform temporarily dipped to 790–3,500 MPN/100 ml, but structural issues persist—Najafgarh and Shahdara drains contribute the bulk of sewage load, STP underperformance remains chronic, and studies note extreme spikes earlier in 2025 reaching into the millions MPN/100 ml with BOD as high as 70 mg/L, underscoring a pattern of seasonal dilution rather than sustained recovery. #Environment
