United States of America is quickly reducing its defense expenditure. This year, Department of Defense proposed $14.5 billion less budget than 2024.

Additionally a continuing resolution (CR) passed in March 2025 froze spending at around $825 billion for the fiscal year, which represents a 10.6% drop from the $895 billion authorized for 2025 (including supplemental funding). This translates to roughly a $70 billion reduction compared to the fully authorized amount.

The withdrawal of the U.S. military from Iraq, excluding Iraqi Kurdistan, has been completed. The main two bases, Victoria Base in Baghdad and Ain Al-Assad in Anbar, have been handed over to the Iraqi military.

U.S. has confirmed troop withdrawals from two locations (Iraq and Syria). It can further withdraw 10,000 troops from Eastern Europe (Romania & Poland) and 4500 troops from South Korea.
