The government on Wednesday imposed import restrictions on certain gold jewellery and articles, a move which would help cut import of non-essential items.

Now an importer would need a permission of licence from the government for importing these gold products.

The index of industrial production in India grew by 5.2% in May 2023 from 4.2% measured in April 2023, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Wednesday. In May 2022, the factory output, measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) was at all time high-growth of 19.6%.

IIT, Kanpur has developed AI enabled "Suicide Drone" that can deliver a payload of up to 6 kg for up to 100 km. The indigenously developed drones are also capable of neutralising enemy targets even in the absence of GPS support. The drones are equipped with stalled technology which enables them to escape radar identification. The drones will undergo target destruction trials in the next six months.
