Whenever the Yield for U.S. government bonds shoot up, it typically signals a distrust in the economy. It also means that the U.S. government has a higher risk for default and investors are demanding a higher premium for taking an increased risk.

If the yield for US Treasuries goes up, it is safe to say that the cost of borrowing across the nation will also rise, possibly leading to the contraction of the economy.

This same pattern was observed before the 2008 financial crisis.
