INFORMATION ABOUT UPI 2.0

[1] Indians love to use UPI; currently:-

- In FY22, UPI processed more than 46 billion transactions amounting to over Rs 84.17 trillion.
- 22 Crore transactions per day, as of now.

[2] The scale of adoption has been driven by:

- Low/no transaction cost.
- Fast transfer.
- Involvement of banks (ensures safety)
- Low failure rates.

[3] This is just UPI 1.0; UPI 2.0 is better:-

It has 3 key advantages:

a. UPI Lite- A Wallet like PayTM where you can store upto Rs 2000 for smaller transactions upto Rs. 200 per time (without any internet connectivity)

b. UPI Credit Cards-

Credit cards can be attached to UPI in the future. With this, we will be able to experience the credit point benefits along with UPI’s fast payment system.

UPI 2.0 will benefit the Credit Card ecosystem and vice-versa.

c. UPI 123- No internet and mobile required for a transaction.

We will be able to make a transaction through a missed call.

This brings more folks (who do not have an internet) into the UPI's gambit.

[4] Due to UPI's popularity, many countries have signed an MOU with NPCI to implement the UPI systems in their countries.

The first out of these was Bhutan in July 2021.

[5] UK and recently France and Singapore have also talked about adopting the UPI system.
