Mumbai airport becomes 1st in India to use wind energy for consumption needs

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has become the first in India to explore utilisation of wind energy for consumption purposes. Under the pilot project, a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) unit and solar hybrid (solar mill) have been installed at the airport. According to an official, the technology is expected to generate minimum energy of 36 kWh per day.

India's trade deficit in May at record $24.3 bn, exports rise 20.55%

India's merchandise exports in May rose 20.55% to $38.94 billion while the trade deficit rose to a record $24.29 billion, up from $6.53 billion recorded in May 2021, according to government data released on Wednesday. Imports in May grew 62.83% to $63.22 billion. Cumulative exports and imports between April 2022-May 2023 rose to $78.72 billion and $123.41 billion respectively.

The Yogi Adityanath-led UP government will now use helicopters to check mob violence, riots and arson in public places.

UP government has sought proposals from Airbus Helicopters regarding the use of helicopters in tourism, policing, emergency medical services and law enforcement.

The helicopters can also be used for rescue work and for fighting floods, said an Airbus representative.

Funds parked by Indian individuals and firms in Swiss banks jumped to 14-year high of 3.83 billion Swiss francs (over ₹30,000 crore) in 2021 on sharp surge in holdings via securities and similar instruments, data showed. This includes funds parked through India-based branches and other financial institutions. Money in Indian customers' savings or deposit accounts rose to about ₹4,800 crore.
