The Railways on Tuesday said it will recruit 1,48,463 people over the next one year as compared to the 43,678 people recruited on an average annually over the last eight years. This move came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's instruction to recruit 10 lakh people in various departments and ministries in the next 18 months.

India's first private train service under Bharat Gaurav scheme flagged off

India's first-ever private train service under Bharat Gaurav scheme flagged off on Tuesday from Coimbatore to Shirdi. "Railways has leased this train to a service provider for a period of two years. It has a total of 20 coaches including first, second and third class AC coaches and sleeper coaches," said B Guganesan, CPRO, Southern Railway.

Mumbai airport becomes 1st in India to use wind energy for consumption needs

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has become the first in India to explore utilisation of wind energy for consumption purposes. Under the pilot project, a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) unit and solar hybrid (solar mill) have been installed at the airport. According to an official, the technology is expected to generate minimum energy of 36 kWh per day.

India's trade deficit in May at record $24.3 bn, exports rise 20.55%

India's merchandise exports in May rose 20.55% to $38.94 billion while the trade deficit rose to a record $24.29 billion, up from $6.53 billion recorded in May 2021, according to government data released on Wednesday. Imports in May grew 62.83% to $63.22 billion. Cumulative exports and imports between April 2022-May 2023 rose to $78.72 billion and $123.41 billion respectively.
