Data Centers: Economic Opportunity or Environmental Risk?

Data centers are becoming one of the biggest infrastructure investments in America, especially with the rapid growth of AI.

On the financial side, they can bring billions in investment, construction jobs, tax revenue, infrastructure upgrades, and new business to local communities. But critics argue that generous tax incentives can reduce the public benefit, while increased demand for electricity can put upward pressure on utility costs.

On the environmental side, the concerns are just as serious. Large data centers can consume enormous amounts of electricity and, depending on their cooling systems and location, significant amounts of water. They can also increase pressure on power grids, land and local water supplies.

At the same time, better technology, renewable energy, more efficient cooling, and strong regulations could reduce many of these impacts. The real question may not be “data centers: good or bad?” but “who gets the benefits, and who pays the costs?”

German has one verb for humans eating and another for animals eating. Call a person the animal one and you just insulted them.

In a New Guinea language, one wrong tone turns “beloved mother-in-law, eat this sweet potato” into “vile snake, eat this feces.”

Now apply that to scripture copied through Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and English for 2,000 years.

Pastors who never learned the original language are not “interpreting.”

They are guessing.
This wasn’t a sermon.
It was a linguist explaining why half of modern Christianity is built on a translation that flattened the meaning.
