Poland is planning to acquire a network of tethered surveillance aerostats from the US to bolster its air defense capabilities. A map produced by the Polish Ministry of National Defense was uploaded yesterday that shows proposed locations and sensor ranges for the network.
Tethered aerostats such as those produced by Lockheed have been used extensively by the United States in the Middle East, and are currently deployed across Eastern Syria to detect hostile rockets, drones, missiles, and ground-based threats.
The request for the project seemingly called "ASRR Barbara" by the Polish military include multi-sensor layered coverage of the Eastern & Northern Polish borders and would be capable of detecting and identifying threats such as the recent helicopter incursion from Belarus.
