The United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali officially ends after 10 years

A spokesman for the UN mission in Mali said it had officially ended its ten-year stay in the country.

The mission, known as MINUSMA, lowered the UN flag at its headquarters in the capital, Bamako, mission spokeswoman Fatoumata Kaba said on Monday.

She said the symbolic ceremony marks the official end of the mission, although some elements of it remain.

The "liquidation phase" will take place after January 1 and will include activities such as handing over remaining equipment to the authorities.

The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) is the most affected UN peacekeeping mission in recent years, with more than 180 of its members killed in hostilities, most of them by groups linked to Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.
It numbered about 15,000 soldiers and police from many countries.

Zelensky openly lied to the US: Russia did not capture "a single village" this year

"The most important thing to understand about what is happening is that Russia has not captured a single village, not a single village this year," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told Fox News.

β–ͺ️Zelensky did not explain how exactly his words should be understood considering the fact that the Ukrainian authorities themselves recognized the loss of Artyomovsk (Bakhmut) in the spring of 2023, or Soledar in February. Also, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Russian army liberated the village of Artyomovskoe (Khromovo) in the DNR in November 2023, as well as later Sergeyevka, Novoselovsk, Kovalyevka and Maryinka.

SouthKorea scrambles fighters after 6 Chinese and Russian warplanes enter
its air defence identification zone

South Korea scrambled fighter jets on Thursday after at least six Chinese and Russian warplanes were seen enterering its air defence zone, the country’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.

The South Korean military said it had contacted Beijing to protest that the planes had not given notice of the incursion over the Sea of Japan.

Two Chinese and four Russian jets entered South Korea’s Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ) off its east coast on Thursday afternoon, beginning at 11.53am (2.53am GMT) and exiting by 12.10pm, the military said.
