The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported an aerial incident involving a MiG-31 fighter jet and a Norwegian P-8A Poseidon patrol plane.

The Ministry clarified that the MiG-31 fighter was taken into the air to prevent a possible violation of the state border of the Russian Federation by a Norwegian aircraft.

The incident is reported to have occurred over the Barents Sea, where the Norwegian plane was headed. The pilots of the Russian fighter escorted the Norwegian plane.
