was the founder and first President-General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNAI)

African Communities League (ACL).

Marcus Garvey was considered a
BLACK NATIONALIST.

His ideas came to be known as Garveyism.

Through the UNIA, Garvey also pushed to support the "back to Africa" movement.

He created the
Black Star Line to act as the “Black owned” passenger line that would carry patrons back and forth to Africa. 

He also fostered restaurants and shopping centers  to encourage black economic independence.

W.E.B Dubois, the founder of the NYC chapter of the BOULE, the Black Secret Society said:

“The Boule was created to keep the black professional away from Marcus Garvey".
