73 People died in the 1961 Airplane crash that killed members of the US Skating team.

The US National medalists of 1961…were on their way to compete in the
1961 WORLD Figure Skating Championships…that was going to be held in Prague.

The plane crashed near a Brussels Airport.

18 U.S. Skating Stars were killed.

The Airplane Crash wiped out the ENTIRE US Skating Team of 1961. These were the skaters who won MEDALS a few weeks prior at the US National Championship.

Also killed were: coaches and JUDGES!!!

It was the medalists from the U.S. NATIONAL Championship, (that was held in Colorado Springs at the end of January, 1961) that were on that fateful flight to the WORLD Figure Skating Championship in Prague (Feb 15, 1961).

The U.S.National Figure Skating Championship was the first time that the skating competition was televised to a National audience on television.
