Then at 6:01pm, a shot
rang out from across the
Lorraine Hotel…and hit
Martin Luther King in the neck.

Even though he was mortally wounded, Martin Luther King didn’t die right away.

The men on the balcony with King attempted to make him comfortable…covering him with a blanket and placing his head on a pillow.

The shooting was radioed to police headquarters just moments later.

There had also been several police officers stationed across the street from King’s hotel who witnessed the shooting and ran to the scene.
