Up until this point things were running smoothly for the Clowns and their coke runs...until one day things started to go sideways…
One of the pilots hired by the C*I*A for the gun and drug running operation...was Barry Seal. He operated out of the Mena Airport in Arkansas, where he brokered, maintained, and piloted the various aircraft used to smuggle the guns and drugs.

Barry started doing deals on the side, and was busted for smuggling Quaaludes in Florida. To get off on these charges, Barry Seal offered to turn informant for the DEA.
He filled the DEA in on the details of the gun and cocaine smuggling operations.
Barry installed cameras on his airplane to prove his allegations about the operation.
Sure enough he was able to capture on camera the drop off of the weapons, and the loading of cocaine from the C*I*A’s cartel cocaine supplier onto the plane.

Both the DEA and CIA wanted the story to remain secret, but President Reagan came up with a different idea…use the photos captured from Seal’s camera, but claim that the men seen accepting the guns were Sandinistas. 🙄
After this new narrative came out, Barry Seal's deal with the DEA was canceled, and the judge in his trial for Quaalude smuggling sentenced him to a light sentence…community service.
However....
The judge also ordered that Barry Seal could not be in possession of any firearms AND could not hire any guards for his own protection.
Sadly...
Barry Seal was shot to death at that location on February 19, 1986.

Eventually Sally and Roger worked through the documents and were able to piece together what had happened with Barry Seal.

The final report by the Tower Commission was delivered to President Reagan on February 26, 1987. It was a classic “Limited Hangout''...the Clowns admitted to the gun smuggling, but concealed the fact that the operation was really a cocaine smuggling operation to benefit the Clintons.

Arkansas was the north end of a convoluted pipeline that was smuggling guns down to the Nicaraguan Contras.
This gun-running operation was operated by the C*I*A and some private individuals. Because the program was illegal, the CIA needed a funding source to pay for the manufacture and transport of untraceable weapons, and that's when they turned to cocaine smuggling as a means to fund the clandestine operation.
