On Nov 22, 1963, ABRAHAM ZAPRUDER stood on a concrete pedestal along Elm Street in Dealey Plaza…using a Model 414 PD Bell & Howell Camera to film.

Zapruder started filming when JFK’s limo turned onto ELM STREET from Houston Street. He was with his Secretary, Marilyn Sitzman.

He continued to film until the limo went under a railroad bridge.

The film was 26.6 seconds in length.

There were 486 FRAMES!
Remember ☝️this number.

THE EVENT WAS FILMED IN COLOR!!

DAN RATHER from CBS was the first to report on the assassination after (allegedly)seeing Zapruder’s film.

CBS and LIFE magazine put in bids to purchase the film from Abraham Zapruder on NOVEMBER 23rd…the after the assassination.

LIFE MAGAZINE won the bid for $150,000. But they didn’t take possession until Monday November 25th. Pocket this.

The inconsistencies in what Dan Rather reported started all the conspiracy theories about the shooting. Multiple shooters? Was it the Mafia…or the CIA…or LBJ…or Castro,…or the KGB, etc.?

Was DAN RATHER following a script?

FRAME 313 of the film captures the fatal shot to the President's head.

Zapruder insisted that frame 313 be excluded from publication.

WHY???
Was this a cover-up?
Misdirection?

LIFE MAGAZINE released 30 frames of the Zapruder film a week after the assassination…in their NOVEMBER 29th, 1963 issue.

Why did they publish the frames of the Zapruder film in black and white?
Remember, it was filmed in color.

LIFE MAGAZINE then published frames from the ZAPRUDER film in COLOR two weeks after the assassination in their DECEMBER 6, 1963 special edition. It was titled "John F. Kennedy Memorial Edition.”

LIFE MAGAZINE also posted pictures in COLOR in the following issues:
October 2, 1964
November 25, 1966, and November 24, 1967.

Why did LIFE MAGAZINE first publish frames from the Zapruder film in black and white…then in later issues switch to color…which it was originally filmed in?

What was the chain of custody of the film?

Upon returning to his office. Abraham Zapruder encountered “Dallas Morning News” reporter, Harry McCormick. McCormick then contacted Secret Service Agent, Forrest Sorrels.

The three brought the film to local tv station WFAA, where Zapruder went on air to describe what he saw.

At the same time Eastman Kodak's Dallas film processing facility developed the film, and Jamieson Film Company produced 3 copies

Zapruder gave two of the copies to Secret Service Agent Sorrels. Those two copies were sent to Washington.

So right after the assassination we now have 4 Zapruder Film copies…
The original plus 3 copies.

Zapruder sold his film and copy to LIFE MAGAZINE. We already discussed what they did with it. They published frames from the film in black and white. Other issues had the color.

WARREN COMMISSION

The Zapruder film frames that were used by the Warren Commission were published in black and white.

☝️☝️Why not in color? The Zapruder film was filmed in color after all.

What about the SECRET SERVICE Zapruder film copies? Remember…the Secret Service had 2 copies.

One of the first-generation Secret Service copies was loaned to the FBI in Washington, D.C.
The FBI also made a copy of the film.

The WARREN COMMISSION studied a copy of that copy…in January 1964.

The WARREN COMMISSION judged that the quality of that film (copy of a copy) to be inadequate…so they requested the original film.
