In 2004 a worldwide ban on agricultural use of DDT was formalized under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
According to Wikipedia DDT still has limited use in disease vector control because of its effectiveness in killing mosquitos…even though its use is controversial.
