I had polio in 1947, and spent the next 9 month in a hospital bed. I had to learn how to walk all over again, but, in spite of the disease, I, through-out the rest of my life, have been a terrific athlete. The effects of polio didn't slow me down, one bit!

During WW2 Kumm directed the use of DDT against typhus and malarial mosquitoes.

DDT was first used by the US Army soldiers in 1943…as a general disinfectant against head lice, mosquitoes and many other insects.

Until the end of WW2, almost all DDT production in the US went to the military.
