On 1998, late night paranormal talk show host
Art Bell received two faxes from an individual claiming to have “pertinent information” on the nature of time travel.
In the first fax, the sender (at that time, unnamed) detailed the discovery of time travel…involving the particle accelerator at CERN, in the year 2034.

Why this computer?
It contained an outdated piece of coding that was needed in the future.
He said it was needed to “debug” various computer programs in 2036. This is a clear reference to the UNIX 2038 timeout error. In the year 2038, a problem similar to the Y2K bug may cause some computers to fail.

John Titor because of his historical knowledge, and because his grandfather had been one of the people who had worked on the very computer needed.
During the course of mission in 1975, Titor made an obscure promise to his grandfather that he would return to the year 1999/2000. Although no details were given as to the nature of this promise, Titor maintained that it was for “personal reasons”.

The fact that the IBM 5100 is portable also made it a better candidate than its far larger cousins for this alleged, one-man time-travel expedition.
John Titor left 1977 with the computer, but rather than returning to 2036 he made a pit stop in the year 1999, as I mentioned earlier. He said he had a compelling reason to stop in that year.
