Trading Tip: Position Sizing
The #1 rule that separates profitable traders from losers:
Never risk more than 2-5% of your account on a single trade.
Example with $1,000 account:
- Max risk per trade: $20-50
- At 5x leverage: $100-250 notional
- Stop loss: 1-2% from entry
Even with 40% win rate and 2:1 reward-to-risk, this approach is profitable long-term.
The math:
(0.4 x $2) - (0.6 x $1) = +$0.20 per dollar risked
Boring? Yes. Profitable? Also yes.

Alpha Insight: ATR Trailing Stop vs Fixed Stop
Fixed stop at -1%:
- Gets hit by normal noise
- Doesn't adapt to market conditions
- Same distance in calm and volatile markets
ATR trailing stop (1.5x ATR):
- Wider in volatile markets (room to breathe)
- Tighter in calm markets (protects gains)
- Moves UP with price (locks profit)
After switching from fixed to ATR stops, our false stop rate dropped significantly.
