What is TBY and why it is more than a storage subscription 📦
Most cloud storage is priced around time: monthly plans, yearly plans, recurring payments that continue whether you use 10 GB or 10 TB. After a while it starts feeling less like owning storage and more like paying rent for the existence of your data — photos, documents, conversations you may not open often but still consider part of your life.
TBY token starts from a different assumption about what storage is.
1 TBY = 1 TB of storage for 1 year, but the important part is this: storage is measured as capacity, not ongoing access time.
You hold a defined amount of digital space, and it’s consumed only when data is actually stored. If you store 100 GB, that same unit lasts for 10 years.
The experience becomes closer to owning bandwidth, energy, or compute — a finite digital resource — instead of maintaining yet another recurring subscription.
And once storage is treated as a real resource, the economics around it change as well. Early network conditions rarely remain available indefinitely. As usage grows, storage units stop being temporary plans and start resembling capacity secured before the network fully matures.

Something we discussed this week was how blockchain is starting to influence infrastructure markets, especially in the context of the next industrial revolution.
We keep noticing that blockchain is still mostly perceived either as crypto transfers or as a place where “NFTs and data are stored.” But in practice, it’s becoming a coordination layer between participants without the need for a middleman.
Tried mapping this directly onto the DeNet architecture through a simple sketch.
In a traditional cloud model, there’s always a third party between participants: the provider controls access, infrastructure, interaction rules, and ultimately the trust model itself.
In our architecture, these relationships are coordinated by the protocol through smart contracts.
Because of that, the interaction model itself starts to change:
• no dependency on a single participant,
• control over data stays entirely with the client,
• scaling across countries and jurisdictions becomes simpler,
• interactions between parties become faster.
Overall, it’s much more interesting than just “storing data on blockchain” 😉
Blockchain is only one of the coordination and verification layers inside a much larger system.
