⚠️ Details of the Binance hack have become known β€” hackers likely gained access to the transaction signing system via the exchange's DevOps engineer's laptop, which allowed them to penetrate a service container and initiate fund withdrawals without stealing private keys.

To attack one of the hot Ethereum wallets, the attackers used the EIP-7702 mechanism from the Pectra update β€” they pre-prepared 50 signed authorizations with sequential numbers, one of which triggered and transferred control of the wallet to a malicious smart contract.

In just three minutes, the contract withdrew 167,464 ETH, 1.615 billion USDT, and more than 60 other tokens.

Simultaneously, hackers were draining Binance wallets in nine other blockchains using regular transactions with valid signatures β€” TRM Labs analysts believe that the attackers gained the ability to use Binance's signing system for multiple networks at once, but the exact method of infrastructure compromise is still being investigated.

βš›οΈ A quantum computer might only need 62 minutes to crack a Bitcoin private key β€” according to calculations by French startup Alice & Bob, this would require around 29,600 physical qubits β€” 17 times less than Google's March estimate Google.

6.26 million BTC with already disclosed public keys are under potential threat, although quantum computers with such capabilities do not yet exist.

πŸ” Following Ledger a spy module was discovered also in the hardware wallet Trezor Safe 5, purchased from reseller CryptoBilis β€” a hidden board with a cellular modem could read the seed phrase from the device's screen and transmit it to attackers.

Trezor is currently investigating the discovery and has not reported any loss of funds, but recommends that everyone who purchased wallets from CryptoBilis since March 2026 urgently transfer cryptocurrency to a new wallet with a new seed phrase.

πŸͺ™ Binance promised to resume cryptocurrency withdrawals within the next 45 hours.

The investigation showed that the hack turned out to be more complex than the initial version involving a compromised engineer's laptop β€” additional points of penetration were discovered, and about $3 billion in stolen assets have already been frozen.

The exchange promises to fully cover the losses from its own funds and the SAFU fund.

🀣 CZ asked Elon Musk to stop joking about Binance's hack and reminded him of the $500 million investment in Twitter's acquisition.

According to Zhao, the SpaceX (SPCX) shares received for these investments are now worth more than $1 billion, so instead of mockery, he would like to see support from Musk.

Binance co-founder Yi He added that the exchange's annual revenue is sufficient to cover losses, so there will be no need to sell SpaceX shares.

🐹 "Today is my first day at Binance! I got a job as a DevOps engineer. The team is just wonderful, everyone is very friendly!

And I also immediately got a message from Bloomberg! Can you imagine, on the very first day they invited me for an interview! True, the microphone wasn't working, but the journalists turned out to be true professionals. They helped me download and install a special program right onto my work computer.

Now that's what I call care! We didn't even have to bother our IT guys. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!"

πŸ”« In the US, two brothers took an entire family hostage for cryptocurrency β€” the criminals broke into a house in Minnesota, tied people up, and threatened them with weapons for over nine hours, demanding access to crypto wallets.

When there wasn't enough money, the owner was forced to go to his dacha for additional wallets β€” in the end, the brothers stole over $8,000,000, but were later apprehended and received 15 and 15.5 years in prison.

☠️ Hackers attacked the websites of 12 crypto projects, including Flap, Kintsu, Pickle Finance and ApeX DeF β€” the attackers used a malicious tool called Step Drainer, which allows cryptocurrency to be stolen after connecting a wallet and signing dangerous permissions.

Users who interacted with these sites on October 31 are advised to check and revoke suspicious permissions via Revoke.cash, and if malicious transactions were signed β€” to transfer the remaining funds to a new wallet.

πŸͺ™ 18 years ago, on October 31, 2008, the Bitcoin Whitepaper authored by Satoshi Nakamoto was published.

The nine-page technical document titled Β«A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash SystemΒ» described the principles of a peer-to-peer payment system that subsequently revolutionized the world of financial technologies.

The first cryptocurrency network was launched in January 2009, and in April 2011, Satoshi disappeared. The public has yet to find out who authored the document that underpins a trillion-dollar industry.
