Real Salt Lake have held talks with former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

There is no agreement imminent. Wijnaldum, 35, is a free agent after departing Al-Ettifaq this summer.

Manchester United are, at present, ruling out the financial pursuit required to persuade Newcastle United to part with primary left-back target, Lewis Hall.

Bringing in a player now on a temporary basis would keep Hall as an option free for next summer.

Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle said there is “no chance” Hall leaves.

Alejandro Balde is also being considered by Manchester United, with his future at Barcelona uncertain.

Hansi Flick left Balde out of Barca’s squad for the game against Elche and said: “I spoke with Balde and told him that, in my opinion, he is not 100 per cent ready. That he should sort out his thoughts, and then we will discuss it.”

Barcelona are open to a sale, which his agent Jorge Mendes, who also looks after Salinas, is exploring. But the Catalans would not let Balde go on the cheap.

A prospective price of around €45m has been mooted, although Barca have not set a number.

United are though said to be cautious over any further spending, and would look to strike a loan deal.

Aston Villa are progressing in a deal to sign defender Joel Ordonez from Club Brugge.

The proposed deal is for an initial loan with an obligation for the Premier League club to make the move permanent for a fee in the region of €30million.

The Ecuador international has been considered among several options to replace Ezri Konsa.

Villa have also pursued Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis, seeing two offers rejected for the defender.

Southampton have made clear their valuation for the 24-year-old and Villa are presently unwilling to meet it.
