Atletico Madrid have renewed their interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero, who is also attracting interest from Arsenal.

Spurs are unaware of Arsenal’s interest and would be unwilling to consider selling their captain to their north London rivals, leaving Atleti and Inter Milan as likelier candidates for Romero’s signature this summer.

England international Ivan Toney has been charged with assault after an incident at a Soho nightclub last December.

London’s Metropolitan Police on Friday confirmed that the 30-year-old had been charged and will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24.

Crystal Palace have completed the free agent signing of former Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The 27-year-old was part of the Palace squad that participated in the Como Cup after leaving Ajax in the summer, where he made just nine appearances last term.

“I’m excited to get started,” Tomiyasu said in a club statement. “This club is in a good moment, winning three titles in two seasons. Here is where I wanted to be.”

Coventry City have completed the signing of Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.

The Danish club say they have received a club-record fee for the 20-year-old Ghana international, which would eclipse the €25million (£21.4m) they received for Ernest Nuamah in 2023.

The midfielder featured in all four matches for Ghana’s at this summer’s World Cup, three of which he started and he scored a 90th-minute winner in his nation’s opening-game win over Panama.

Liverpool are set to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan deal.

The Premier League side have been in the market for a new central defender after Ibrahima Konate left Anfield at the end of his contract to join Real Madrid as a free agent.

West Ham United have reached an agreement in principle to sign winger Manor Solomon from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Athletic reported that talks between the clubs were on hold for financial reasons, with West Ham not willing to agree to the bonuses Spurs were asking for if West Ham were to achieve promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

However, the two teams have now reached an agreement in principle on a deal for the Israel international that includes a £5million transfer fee plus £2m in potential add-ons.

The deal would also include a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

Barcelona captain Ronald Araujo is due to fly to Liverpool on Sunday to complete a move to the Premier League club.

The 27-year-old Uruguay international centre-back is expected to join on a season-long loan deal that also includes Liverpool having a €55million option to buy him.

Everton are in talks to sign Brennan Johnson from Crystal Palace in a deal that could see Dwight McNeil move to Selhurst Park.

Johnson, 25, only joined Palace from Tottenham Hotspur in January, while McNeil, 26, has been at Everton since the summer of 2022.

McNeil was close to a move to Palace in the winter transfer window, before the transfer fell through due to the relevant paperwork not being completed on time.

Sources said Gozo was in London on Monday to undergo a medical with Palace and complete the paperwork for his move.

Palace and Real Salt Lake have reached an agreement worth around $15 million (£11 million) for Gozo, allowing the 19-year-old to travel to the UK.
