The 29-year-old defender’s absence leaves Liverpool short at centre-back with captain Virgil van Dijk starting his pre-season back on Merseyside this week rather than travelling to the US.
New signing Jeremy Jacquet has yet to feature in the friendlies as he builds up his fitness, while Giovanni Leoni is in the final stages of his rehab after a serious knee injury.

One source with knowledge of the meeting, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, said the feeling and discussion expressed among the vast majority of Concacaf members was that they are losing confidence, or have lost confidence altogether in Gianni Infantino as FIFA President.
