OpenAI’s new model can generate surprisingly realistic fake news.
New model, called GPT-2 is an unsupervised language model that can generate coherent paragraphs and perform rudimentary reading comprehension, machine translation, question answering, and summarization — all without task-specific training.

In this paper, they present a reinforcement learning approach for mapping natural language instructions to sequences of executable actions. They assume access to a reward function that defines the quality of the executed actions. During training, the learner repeatedly constructs action sequences for a set of documents, executes those actions, and observes the resulting reward. They use a policy gradient algorithm to estimate the parameters of a log-linear model for action selection. They apply their method to interpret instructions in two domains - Windows troubleshooting guides and game tutorials. Their results demonstrate that this method can rival supervised learning techniques while requiring few or no annotated training examples.

Kernel is a startup that specializes in developing brain implants that stimulate neurons. According to its founders, the implants will stimulate one of the regions in the brain, the hippocampus, forcing the brain to remember incoming information.
The hippocampus is a region of the brain responsible for creating emotions and transferring information from short-term to long-term memory storage.
The development should help patients suffering from diseases like Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. The implant will contain electrodes to record neural signals during learning, a microprocessor to conduct calculations, as well as additional electrodes for neural stimulation.
The startup’s development is based on research by Theodore Berger, head of the Center for Neural Engineering at the University of Southern California. According to the scientist’s methodology, electrodes log neural signals from the hippocampus during the process of recognition and memorization of new information. Berger also tracked the processes that took place inside the brain during the learning process, to determine how incoming signals received during the learning process are transformed into long-term memories. Based on his studies, the scientist developed several mathematical models that transformed input signals (learning) into output signals (memories).

🖌 A robot artist has been created in the UK.
The world's first robot artist, named Ai-Da in honour of the world's first female programmer Ada Lovelace, is able to do pencil drawings. Ai-Da has a freely-moving bionic arm, silicone skin and cameras integrated into each of its eye sockets.
🏞 It takes about 45 minutes to paint a picture. Ai-Da is able to depict people and animals from photographs and draw still-life paintings.
