🌀 The Butterfly Effect in Fractals
Tiny changes in a fractal can lead to wildly different shapes.

Imagine a simple rule: replace each line segment with a smaller copy of a shape. Repeat this infinitely, and you get a fractal—a geometric object with detail at every scale. The Koch snowflake is a classic example: start with an equilateral triangle, then repeatedly add smaller triangles to each side. Its perimeter becomes infinite, yet it encloses a finite area.

Fractals often exhibit self-similarity, meaning zooming in reveals the same pattern. This property makes them useful in computer graphics for generating natural-looking landscapes and in mathematics for modeling chaotic systems. But here is the twist: in many fractals, a minuscule change in the starting rule or initial condition can produce a drastically different final shape.

🎲 The Monty Hall Problem: Switch and Win
Why switching doors doubles your chance of winning a car.

You are on a game show with three doors. Behind one is a car, behind the others are goats. You pick Door 1. The host, who knows what is behind each door, opens Door 3 to reveal a goat. He then asks if you want to switch to Door 2. Most people think it does not matter, but switching wins two-thirds of the time.

The key is that the host's action is not random. He will never open the door with the car. If you initially picked a goat, which happens two-thirds of the time, the host is forced to reveal the other goat, leaving the car behind the remaining door. So switching wins whenever your initial pick was wrong.

💡 Switching doors is not a gamble, it is a mathematical certainty.
