In the battle between Gachagua and President William Ruto, Gachagua is closest to Brutus and President Ruto to Mark Antony. In Julius Caesar, Antony — a soldier, a charmer, and a lover of feasts — understands something different. He knows that politics is theatre (spectacle, in fact) and that crowds are moved not by “truthful” words but by emotion.
In ancient Rome, as in Kenya, the crowd decides who wins the current debate; but history decides who was right.

In the public imagination, firewood is often associated with deforestation, environmental degradation and poverty. While these concerns are real, they tell only part of the story. For millions of rural households, the story is far more nuanced than that.
The challenge is not the existence of firewood itself, but whether it is produced and collected sustainably and burnt efficiently.

Raila Odinga was never known for giving handouts at political rallies. He openly denounced tokenism, castigating leaders who paid youths or women to fill venues, cheer them on or heckle rivals. The political culture he publicly disavowed has taken an even more troubling turn.
Across parts of the country, handouts are becoming an expectation, with politicians confronted by groups demanding money before listening to them, allowing them to leave or, in some cases, letting vehicles or helicopters pass.

After graduating in 2021, Daniel Kanyoro started a grocery business. One day, he visited a neighbour who reared pigs and chickens on a 100x100m plot. He was immediately motivated and started researching online the cost of production. He set up a pig shelter and purchased sows from Baraka Agriculture College.
“After one month, the sow gave birth to 12 piglets."
In 2024, the number of pigs rose to almost 200. His vision is to rear more than 1,000.
