Matt, circa 2030s. He has convinced himself that he 'retired' at age 26 with the cash he made off with from Project Updoot. However, Portland's high cost of living has whittled down his savings (or stealings) after just a few years. Feeling the pressure of having 'skin in the game', he is forced to move back in with his two dads to survive. From the dank smelling basement of his gay dads' house Matt strokes his beard and reminisces about all the money he made lying, scamming and cheating 'the whales' in late 2021.
Losing all his hair at age 30 has made him almost as insecure about his appearance as his yellow teeth, several of which fell out a few weeks ago. With no money to afford hair or dental implants (and being too proud to ask dads Barry and Gary for anymore money), Matt spends hours every day desperately applying for jobs. Already in his mid thirties as a college dropout with no qualifications or job experience he is turned down by every company he applies to. Frustrated and bitter, Matt turns to the one skill he was able to successfully monetize. After many years Matt has attained okay Japanese ability. He can now speak with good pitch accent, in both standard Japanese and Kansaiben. However despite being one of the two "best Japanese speakers in America" he has not spoken Japanese in years, cowering in fear at the very thought of a native speaker hearing his Japanese.
Hoping to hook the whales back in and recoup some of the money he lost, Matt begrudgingly records and uploads his channel's first video in several years. He makes sure to give the video a click-bait title and thumbnail to draw as much attention as possible. But having pissed away any credibility he had in the Japanese learning community, he is shunned and mocked relentlessly. A week goes by and Matt checks the view count of his new video. Much to his chagrin, the video has only 200 views, with a 99% dislike ratio. On the verge of bursting into tears he takes the video down immediately, and then barrels down the basement stairs as fast as he can to bury his face in the pillow of his boyhood bed and cry himself to sleep.
