אלפי מבקרים התכנסו על מנת לחזות בפלא הזריחה במקדש אבו סימבל באסוואן, בדרום מצרים. במהלך האירוע קרני השמש הזורחת חודרות אל המבנה ומאירות בדיוק מדהים את פניו של המלך רעמסס השני, לכבודו נבנה המקדש. אירוע הזריחה מתקיים פעמיים בשנה: ב-22 בפברואר, וב-22 באוקטובר. (בתקופה העתיקה התרחש פלא הזריחה ב-21 בפברואר ובאוקטובר, אך המבנה הועתק ממקומו בשנות השישים על מנת לשמור עליו עם בניית סכר אסואן). את האירוע ליוו חגיגות וריקודים.

Thousands of visitors gathered to witness the Abu Simbel Sun Festival in Aswan, southern Egypt.
During the event, the rays of the rising sun penetrate the temple and illuminate the face of King Ramesses II—after whom the temple was built—with remarkable precision.
The solar alignment occurs twice a year: on February 22 and October 22. In ancient times, the phenomenon occurred on February 21 and October 21, but the temple was relocated during the 1960s to preserve it amid the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
The event was accompanied by celebrations and traditional dances.
