לפי Human Rights Watch, לאחר שהלחימה עם המורדים הסתיימה והלוחמים נסוגו, כוחות ממשלת סוריה ומיליציות פרו־ממשלתיות עברו בין הבתים, הפרידו חלק מהגברים מהנשים, ריכזו תושבים והוציאו אותם להורג מטווח קצר. גופות ובתים הועלו באש, ובכמה מקרים נהרגו משפחות שלמות. HRW אימת שמית לפחות 248 קורבנות — 167 באל־ביידא ו־81 בבניאס — והדגיש שהמספר האמיתי כנראה גבוה יותר.

According to Human Rights Watch, after the fighting with opposition forces had ended and the fighters had withdrawn, Syrian government forces and pro-government militias went from house to house, separated some of the men from the women, rounded up residents, and executed them at close range. Bodies and homes were burned, and in several cases entire families were killed. HRW verified the names of at least 248 victims — 167 in al-Bayda and 81 in Baniyas — and emphasized that the actual death toll was probably higher.
