מחאות פרצו ברחבי אזרבייג'ן בעקבות תיקון ב-21 בספטמבר לתקנות תלבושת אחידה, האוסר על לבוש הנחשב כבלתי תואם לחינוך חילוני, צעד שאוסר למעשה על חיג'אב.

משרד הפנים של אזרבייג'ן אישר 37 מעצרים על רקע מחאות בבאקו, והאשים כמה מפגינים בגרימת נזק לרכוש ושיבוש הסדר הציבורי. דרישות קוד לבוש נפרדות למורים נכנסו לתוקף ב-6 באוקטובר, בעוד שדיווחים על הגבלות המשפיעות על אינסטגרם וטיקטוק.

Protests have erupted across Azerbaijan following a September 21 amendment to school uniform regulations prohibiting clothing deemed incompatible with secular education, a measure that effectively bans the hijab.

Since early October, students and teachers wearing headscarves have been turned away from schools, prompting demonstrations involving parents, teachers and students, including girls who do not wear hijabs. Videos circulating online show distressed schoolgirls and teachers, with one child pleading: “I am a child. I want to study! I have that right too — but they are not letting me study!”

Some teachers have reportedly held lessons outdoors in solidarity, while protesters have vowed to continue attending school despite the restrictions.

Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry has confirmed 37 arrests amid protests in Baku, accusing some demonstrators of damaging property and disrupting public order. Separate dress-code requirements for teachers took effect on October 6, while reports of restrictions affecting Instagram and TikTok.

The government maintains that the regulations protect secular education and equality among students.

One U.S. official said Trump told Netanyahu to “go ahead and get ready” but made no firm commitment, while another said the president continues to shift his position.
