Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning to citizens planning to travel to the Netherlands following reports of customs inspections of luggage belonging to passengers arriving on flights from Israel.

The ministry warned that Israeli travelers could face lengthy and, in its words, “humiliating” baggage searches following the entry into force of a Dutch decree banning the import, purchase, and sale of goods originating from Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights.

The ban also applies to goods carried in personal luggage—including souvenirs, gifts, and items intended for personal use. An intentional violation may result in up to six years in prison, community service, or a substantial fine.
